'Ori Tahiti Nui Competitions

Competition descriptions

• Solo competition (Men/Women/Children): 

  Participants perform to percussion music lasting 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds for the Youth categories, and 1 minute 30 seconds to 1 minute 45 seconds for the Adult categories.

  • Session 1 – TAURE'A CATEGORIES / Thursday from 6:00 p.m.
    Hine Taure'a & Tama Taure'a (12–14 years) | Taure'a Vahine & Taure'a Tāne (15–17 years).
     
  • Session 2 – TAMA CATEGORIES / Friday from 8:30 a.m.
    Hine Tamahou & Tamahou (6–8 years) | Tamahine & Tamaroa (9–11 years).
     
  • ADULT OR 'ARIOI CATEGORIES / Saturday: 
    • Session 3 – from 7:00 a.m.: Toa Vahine & Toa Tane (18–23 years) | ’Aito Vahine & 'Airo Tane (24–29 years). 
    • Session 4 – from 12:30 p.m.: Hiva Vahine & Hiva Tane (30–35 years) | Feti'a Vahine & Feti'a Tane (36 years and over).

• ’ōte’a competition by group of 5 persons (men/women/mixed): 

  Two categories are open to groups of five performers (vahine, tāne, or mixed), aged 15 and over.

  • Session 7 – AMATEUR CATEGORY / Sunday from 8:30 a.m.

    Groups of five performers (made up mainly of dancers who have never placed on the podium in an ’Ori Tahiti competition or are not recognized as professional performers) dance to percussion sequences lasting 3 to 4 minutes.

  • Session 8 – PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY / Sunday from 12:00 p.m.

  Groups of five performers dance to percussion sequences lasting 3 to 3 minutes 30 seconds.

• The ’Ori Tahiti Nui World Championship 2026: Sunday, November 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Hiti Mahana Restaurant.
